Inside Salisbury: So many good things wrapped in an informative bundle
Give yourself the gift of getting to know the real Salisbury - the people, the place, the culture and the history.
By Annette J Beveridge
We don't always see the place in which we live in the same way as visitors. This is not surprising but at times, we miss so much. Life is pressured and we may spend time rushing around rather than enjoying this place we call home.
I was reminded of this when a former work colleague from Holland enthused about how picturesque it was. She noticed the amazing architecture and the sloping roofs and loved our pubs. As we walked around, I saw the city through her eyes.
Another friend from Spain loved the fact that everything was so accessible, and yet, he could walk for five or ten minutes and feel as if he was in the countryside. He loved the mottled green hues of our fields and trees. He saw our city and surrounding area with an artist’s eye. It was so different to where he lived.
This is why for many people, Salisbury is always home, myself included. I spent 10 years travelling through Europe and still came back to my roots. There is something about Salisbury that resonates.
It is why I set up Inside Salisbury providing some of the city's news but also, wanting to explore what makes Salisbury such an interesting and appealing place in which to live.
Of course, there is good and bad everywhere but in the main and in comparison to other cities, we still maintain a quaintness, a charm and a safe place in which to live.
My interest in Salisbury goes deep. I hope that we can explore it together through lively and insightful interviews, through my ‘on the spot’ interviews, (if you see me approach in town, let's chat about your views) and through events and reviews while peering through the murky layers of our history.
