Brownfield site properties to be built offsite

Building work for six properties in Salisbury has been brought forward by the council utilising a Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) build.
The development on Rawlence Road will comprise of four one-bed flats and two two-bed houses. These will all be available as social rent properties and will be zero carbon in use.
The development is a part of the council’s ambition to deliver 1,000 new affordable homes. Currently, 174 have been delivered and an additional 532 homes are in the pipeline.
Cabinet Member for Housing, Councillor Phil Alford, said: “These affordable homes will help to address local housing needs in Salisbury and we’ve already had some positive feedback from residents. As MMC properties, they will be high quality and energy efficient with lower running costs which will really benefit residents and is a key focus for all of our new homes.
“There will also be a good mix of house sizes to cater for individuals and small and large families.”

These innovative MMC builds are in partnership with Rollalong where the homes will be built offsite to exact specifications and then delivered to location and craned into position. The homes will be energy efficient, feature solar panels and air source heat pumps and will achieve a minimum energy performance rating of B.
Cllr Alford added: “This is one of several MMC schemes we are currently bringing forward alongside other types of development or acquisitions. We are also continuously engaging with local and regional developers to look for opportunities to acquire homes or development sites. We are also making a substantial investment to improve existing council homes to ensure they achieve a minimum energy performance rating of B. This project is supporting residents, families and communities up and down the county and we look forward to seeing the delivery of more energy-efficient housing for residents.”
The social rented homes will be available to people with a housing need on the council’s housing register, with the shared ownership homes available to purchase through Wiltshire Council, helping people to get their first home at a lower price entry point, or maintain a position on the housing ladder at an affordable cost to them.
