Inside Salisbury: Rummage through your drawers for a good cause
Salisbury Soroptimists need 'gently used' bras.

IT IS time to rummage through your bedroom drawers to find some ‘gently used’ bras to help those in need.
Salisbury Soroptimists are once again asking women to donate any bra to help women in Africa.
Salisbury Soroptimist President Michele Smith, said: “Almost everyone has a bra which lurks in a corner and isn’t often worn. Why not liberate it and let us send it to Africa where someone will use it? We accept bras that can be reused, new or lightly used.”
The collection will start on May 1 and run until the end of June.

By donating, it ensures that the bras will be saved from landfill and material recycling centres and will be used by women in parts of Africa where they may not be able to afford a garment; in fact, a bra may even be considered a luxury item.
The bras are distributed by various charities working in local communities.
Salisbury Soroptimists are working with ZABRA - Afreebra initiative, an organisation founded by Jeanette Kruger. Jeanette has been financing the storage and transport of the bras until she recently retired. She is now seeking financial donations to help the work continue. Salisbury Soroptimists has donated and hope others might be able to help too via the Zabra JustGiving page.

Last year, a record 6014 bras were donated thanks to the generosity of local people but the Soroptimists are hoping that this year, they will receive even more to help those in need.
Collection points will be at Five Rivers Leisure Centre and 60 Endless Street.
Operation Gallop
A NEW initiative to protect horse owners from the rising tide of tack thefts is due to launch on April 28.
Entitled ‘Operation Gallop,’ the scheme has been set up by Wiltshire Police. It introduces tack stamping - an innovative method to permanently mark saddles with a unique code, making them easier to trace if stolen.
Horse tack, particularly saddles, can be incredibly valuable. Even second-hand saddles often cost several hundred pounds, with custom-fit models valued at thousands of pounds so it is hoped this will save time and money by preventing thefts.
