Dazzling light display thrills the crowds at Salisbury Cathedral
Lights, sounds, and scenes - a kaleidoscope of stunning imagery in Salisbury
Review: Sarum Lights
by Annette J Beveridge
An immersive event transformed both the interior and exterior of Salisbury Cathedral last night with multiple projection installations.
We were taken on an imaginative exploration of humanity’s relationship with time and as the sky darkened, the light display lit up the Cathedral with breath-taking images and an enticing narrative.
Even though crowds were starting to gather outside of the Cathedral, it was easy to feel alone in the moment drawn to the colours, and the artistry.
From the theory of relativity, and wormholes, and being drawn to the intricate workings of clocks, it is an absolute spectacle to behold. There were even images of dinosaurs - so something for everyone.
This is a family event and well worth seeing.
If you went last year, don’t worry, this is all new and completely different. The only thing that remains the same is the quality of the awe-inspiring imagery and narration that transports you to a different time and place for a period of time.
The event starts outside with a cascade of colours and themes turning the historical building into a cinematic screen. Inside, it is easy to become lost in the imagery. You feel very small but a part of something so intricate.
Sarum Lights by Luxmuralis is on until Saturday, November 9.
