Inside Salisbury: Barford St Martin to open private gardens to the public
Wild and wacky gardens to the classic and beautiful
By Annette J Beveridge
Exciting, exotic and wild private gardens are to open to the public for one day in June.
The gardens in Barford St Martin have all been carefully tended by residents and vary from the large and wildlife-friendly to the quirky and beautifully designed. Each garden highlights a range of styles while providing stunning flower borders, raised beds, productive vegetable patches and water features.
Visitors can pick up topical tips and hints on planting schemes or helpful ideas that will encourage those all-important pollinators that are so beneficial to many flowering plants.

The Alabaré Development Centre in Barford, which provides training for vulnerable adults with learning difficulties, is adding an extra dimension to the day by running a very special ‘Makers Market’, where visitors can browse and buy crafts produced by talented local artists.
The centre also has a garden filled with produce and a wide variety of vegetables will be on sale.
Visitors will also be able to enjoy delicious home-made cakes, cream teas and refreshments at the Alabaré Development Centre on Dairy Road. Visitors can relax, enjoy the views, the plants, and the crafts.
The Open Gardens event is on Saturday, June 7 from 10.00am to 3.00pm.
Entry to the gardens is £5 per family (cash only). Tickets and a village map of the gardens can be purchased from the Barford Inn car park on the day.
